About Our Club
Welcome to the MRU Men’s Rugby Club! The MRU Men's Rugby Club was formed in 2006 to compete in inter-scholastic play against other post-secondary schools in Alberta. If you’re looking for camaraderie, teamwork, leadership, training and fitness benefits, rugby – and our club – is a great choice. The club runs two separate seasons, one in the fall and one in the winter.
Fall Season
The Fall is considered our club’s main season, playing fifteens rugby (15 a side), during September and October of each year. Our first team competes in the Prairies University Men’s Rugby Championship (PUMRC) with the goal of earning a berth to the Canadian University Men’s Rugby Championship (CUMRC) in November of each year, and our second team competes in a full development exhibition schedule alongside the league team. Players often interchange between teams as skills develop throughout the season. The club generally practices on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with games on the weekend.
Winter Season
The club moves indoors over the winter, focusing on sevens skills and conditioning, with the goal of an International Sevens Tour. In the past, the team has travelled to Las Vegas and Los Angeles to compete in invitational tournaments against American schools. The Winter sessions are usually attended by a subset of our Fall players, with practice days determined by facility availability.
New Players
Each year, the club welcomes players of all shapes and sizes and with varying skill levels, including individuals with no rugby experience. We welcome new players at any point during our two seasons to join our club.
